Robert Draper is a native Texan and the author of both fiction and nonfiction books. For the past decade, he has been a correspondent for GQ Magazine, and previous to that was senior editor at Texas Monthly. He is also a contributing writer at National Geographic. His biography of the Bush White House, Dead Certain: The Presidency of George W. Bush, was a critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller.

In his lecture, Mr. Draper will discuss his unprecedented access to the White House--how he acquired it and what insights he gained from this remarkable proximity to the president and his immediate subordinates in the White House. In Bush himself, Mr. Draper found a man of surprising dimension, and aspects both inspiring and dismaying...but in any event, far more textured than the caricature promulgated not only by Bush's critics but by the president himself. Over the course of American history, perhaps no more than four or five journalists have ever been granted such exposure to a sitting president. Mr. Draper's perspective is therefore unique, not to mention colorful and newsmaking.
