Florida International University welcomed its first class in 1972 under the guidance of FIU's first president Charles E. Perry. Since that first class—under the collective effort of six FIU presidents—the university has graduated more than 330,000 alumni.
Jeanette M. Nuñez is the President-Designate of Florida International University. She began her tenure as interim president on Feb. 17, 2025.
On June 2, the FIU Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name Ms. Nuñez as the university’s seventh president. Her presidency is pending confirmation by the Florida Board of Governors, which is scheduled to meet on June 18.
