A message from President Jeanette Nuñez
Dear FIU community,
As I reflect on my journey from my days as an FIU undergraduate student to serving as its seventh president – and the first alumna to hold this honor - I am filled with gratitude. This university changed my life, as it has for hundreds of thousands of Panthers before and after me.
Today, we stand on the shoulders of visionary leaders, talented and dedicated faculty, and determined students who have shaped FIU into a Top 50 major public research university in the country.
FIU’s story is one of bold ambition and momentum. In just five decades, we’ve grown from what was once an abandoned airfield into a powerhouse university committed to educational excellence, groundbreaking research, student success, innovation, and opportunity. Our alumni lead in every sector, from business and government to healthcare and the arts, proving that when you study at FIU, there is no limit to how far you will go. FIU is ranked No. 1 in the nation for economic mobility, and we continue to ensure prosperity for our students and their families.
As we look ahead, our purpose is clear: we will elevate student success, expand research with purpose, and strengthen the partnerships that will drive our growth. These three pillars of student success, research, and strategic collaboration define our mission for the future.
Together, we will continue to build a university that’s on the hunt to achieve more.
